Casino is a movie about gambling and it depicts the darker side of Las Vegas. While most movies show a shallow vision of Las Vegas, filled with partying and weekend getaways Casino is an epic crime drama that lays bare the city’s history of crime and corruption.
Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone are both excellent in their roles. Their characters are a study in evil and yet we still feel for them. Casino is a film about greed and betrayal but it also shows the human cost of such behaviour. It’s a grim and realistic movie that is not afraid to show its audience some truly hellacious violence. From a popped eyeball to a graphically edited baseball bat beating, this is a brutal movie.
In the movie, Sam “Ace” Rothstein is a man with a simple philosophy: “when you love someone, you gotta trust them.” He believes that luck and love are the only two things in life that you can count on. But as the movie progresses we see that he’s not quite as principled as he claims to be.
The games in casinos are the main draw and they’re designed to be exciting and immersive. Table games like poker and blackjack require a high level of skill and strategy and are a great way to challenge yourself. Slot machines are less strategic but they’re much more fun and offer a sense of excitement with every spin. Casinos also reward their loyal players with free goods and services, such as food, hotel rooms, tickets to shows and limo service. This is how they convince people to gamble even more money and make riskier decisions, even when the math is stacked against them.
